So today I said forget it and decided to post it without a catchy mail. I can only hope the pictures and easy tutorial will spark you to give it a try. </p>
<p dir=ltr>Materials:<br>
Old piece of wood (fence board, pallet wood..etc)<br>
Paint (as many different colors as you would like)<br>
Carpet tacks<br>
Hammer<br>
Teaching paper<br>
Design you want</p>
<p dir=ltr>Instructions:</p>
<p dir=ltr>1. Paint your piece of wood any base color you would like. I ended up doing 2 layers, but you can do just one for a vintage feel.</p>
<p dir=ltr>2. While your wood is drying, i left mine over night, trace any design you want to the tracing paper. Keep in mind that it's got to be a good size for the wood. If your tracing the design from your computer you can always use the zoom feature to control how big the design is. </p>
<p dir=ltr>3. My original idea was to use nails with larger heads, but it turns out home depot didn't have nails short enough to not go through my wood. So instead I used carpet tacks. They were a little harder to get in and keep straight but had just the right length and head left to paint. </p>
<p dir=ltr>Take your design and cut around it and tape two of the sides down to the wood so it won't move around on you while you hammer the tacks in. </p>
<p dir=ltr>4. Start with one side and then work your way around the design. Try not to jump around too much. What i noticed was that as the design came to an end my fingers were a little big to get in between some of the tacks, so a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the tacks might be a good option. </p>
<p dir=ltr>5. Once your tacks are hammered in paint the heads and let dry. </p>
<p dir=ltr>From here it's all up to you what you would like to do with it. I left mine alone, but you could mount hooks to the back of the wood so it can be hung, or even secure ribbon or twice to the sides so it can go on your front door. </p>
<p dir=ltr>Play around with the design and even paint words into the wood after your design is in place! </p>

For the first, back to the grind project, I wanted to make something simple, useful and cute. (granted my husband is not a fan of the fabric colors or patterns)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Dog house pattern by Butterick</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Foam padding</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3 different Fabrics (1 or 2 is acceptable)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
iron-on applique</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik3owjO0KsF5bl-A6uCuxEINxDEqEu6NeWke8qYWsTDE6RCHodrFOW97WV-Ucw3Mcwxmmyg6V9ZxdObNDVWiqu4ClnbiD5L1nFPZMbji_lSI5K8AmSJ5ERA9paSUjukUIo6D7haOjVSHY/s1600/20130105_202144.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik3owjO0KsF5bl-A6uCuxEINxDEqEu6NeWke8qYWsTDE6RCHodrFOW97WV-Ucw3Mcwxmmyg6V9ZxdObNDVWiqu4ClnbiD5L1nFPZMbji_lSI5K8AmSJ5ERA9paSUjukUIo6D7haOjVSHY/s320/20130105_202144.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
velcro</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This project came about when I went with my friend to the fabric store so she could pick up some fabric for a backdrop. I had been itching to break out my sewing machine, but couldn't figure out what I wanted to start with. So I did what most people do and found something in the pattern books they have and grabbed the pattern. It took me about 45 minutes to pick out the fabrics I wanted to use and had to ask multiple times how to read, and even what a few of the items I needed were. In the end I came out of the store with <i>most </i>of what I needed and a TON on excitement. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went straight home and cut out all my patterns for the dog house. I wanted to take it slow so i wouldn't get overwhelmed and actually read through the instructions as well as how much to cut and how to baste everything together. Which for the record is NOT what I usually do. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next day I wanted to do most of my fabric cutting with lots of natural light, why, I have no idea. So the following day thats exactly what I did. Come to find out I didn't grab enough fabric, probably due to the fact I cut all over the fabric and not in an orderly way. But never the less, I went back to the store and picked up more fabric and some velcro. ( I altered some of the sewn pattern to be closed with fabric so the bed would be collapsible.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once everything was basted I broke out the old sewing machine, borrowed a plastic table from my parents, and invested in a rotary cutter and yard stick. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEido7l113TpQ-K9UxMjTTsFAgTjTrq7fhcOEut8j-OXe98HGNUVOL8TsUIRipro4Lj8NH9bpG3cFHSCRXvzqrJSL8LigttwxhwKRtwEkWDbsfQFzI0rSJ4MoG8V7EWc1OMclC-aSsVGzLU/s1600/20130106_215441.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEido7l113TpQ-K9UxMjTTsFAgTjTrq7fhcOEut8j-OXe98HGNUVOL8TsUIRipro4Lj8NH9bpG3cFHSCRXvzqrJSL8LigttwxhwKRtwEkWDbsfQFzI0rSJ4MoG8V7EWc1OMclC-aSsVGzLU/s320/20130106_215441.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Honestly, I think the hardest part of this house was figuring out how to get all the sides to stick together. What I mean by that is once the front and back sides of the house were sewn together with the main section, I was confused on how to get everything together. (the roof comes off, it just stays on top with the velcro.) I suppose I should have gone back to my instructions, but at this point it was home bound and I wanted to get it done. I was so excited to see it completed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first try was hand sewing it, but wasn't a fan of how it looked, so I thought, hey why not just add velcro so it could be portable. (Incase I later try to make a larger version.) So thats exactly what I did. I didn't use a strip for the whole side though, Instead I cut 3 small pieces and evenly spaced it down each side. I think it looks much better than before. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0ubd5Rf_MS8uTNw-oD-di5NEyGcT1PsZeGTGILqzQ8He_FSKYyi9viqF-xQ_tTQhMZOamvx37zEMKv7xXhru7vBwrrJiKoUFgTiy-1V9QjhlkQk442Pw6xiTA7ErbnJW_pAuao-HvedM/s1600/20130110_210842.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0ubd5Rf_MS8uTNw-oD-di5NEyGcT1PsZeGTGILqzQ8He_FSKYyi9viqF-xQ_tTQhMZOamvx37zEMKv7xXhru7vBwrrJiKoUFgTiy-1V9QjhlkQk442Pw6xiTA7ErbnJW_pAuao-HvedM/s320/20130110_210842.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From there I was done. I just placed the pad I make for the inside and used an iron-on monkey applique to add some character. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there you have it, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a soft-sided dog bed/house. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So after the wedding, honeymoon and holidays passed I was really itching to get back into blogging and some diy projects I had planned.  </p>
<p dir=ltr>So as one of my new years resolutions I wanted to blow off the dust and start making my magic.  Haha or something like that.  </p>
<p dir=ltr>A few things that I have started are:</p>
<p dir=ltr>1. A journal for all of the projects I want to try/do.</p>
<p dir=ltr>2. Got more support from the hubby towards what I want to get accomplished.  </p>
<p dir=ltr>3. Am using pinterest as a main staple for my projects.  This allows me to venture into un-charted territories and give feedback on awesome things we see on there.  </p>
<p dir=ltr>4. (This goes along with the last one, but I think warrents it's own bullet) Trying to expand my talents. For example trying things I never actually thought of doing; upholstering, painting of furniture..etc. </p>
<p dir=ltr>5. More eager to start and continue something important to me.  </p>
<p dir=ltr>6. Ending on an even number! </p>
<div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'> <a href='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD0Zo5O2fRqQCBw_ka5sRwXE2Y660Gu5nk6OPPOlw2hKBDJdVYdXp4MSYCgYuD3fPVHvqHgNRJKKm_tb0ATQucoTIK9HvS2vfsFBRHoTkrEQljUtPqpieOEtiZKHtduob2Sy5EsotxT_k/s1600/2012-08-03_14-52-49_353.jpg' imageanchor='1' style='margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;'> <img border='0' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD0Zo5O2fRqQCBw_ka5sRwXE2Y660Gu5nk6OPPOlw2hKBDJdVYdXp4MSYCgYuD3fPVHvqHgNRJKKm_tb0ATQucoTIK9HvS2vfsFBRHoTkrEQljUtPqpieOEtiZKHtduob2Sy5EsotxT_k/s640/2012-08-03_14-52-49_353.jpg' /> </a> </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-77932305621012006762012-07-04T00:05:00.001-07:002012-07-04T00:05:19.855-07:00Colored MugsWith the approaching wedding, I thought it would be fun to do a really simple DIY project with one of my bestest best friends. <br />

So I wanted to play around with a few designs. One design I tried this week was the heart. It is super simple to paint on and cute. <br />
<br />
I used a base coat and two crackle polishes for the hearts. What I really enjoy about this design paired with the crackles is the fun. It gives it a rustic look. Almost like it has been there and now starting to fade. Awesome for spring! <br />
<br />
Mix and match colors as well as designs and share!! <br />
<br />
Step one: Apply base coat<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kNdsE2nrHqlWaiuRLG6SXOEgbSexyI06c7x0EQsOFKw9vpcoL2Y8YqFpFcEysjcRvWXAkSBzImOmuF3Z0DQ8Hu5lFL_ZNoiXIfecTAbgXsRrZz-9-0l01GjQXRev9Je_hILKz26Au2k/s1600/base+cracked+hearts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4kNdsE2nrHqlWaiuRLG6SXOEgbSexyI06c7x0EQsOFKw9vpcoL2Y8YqFpFcEysjcRvWXAkSBzImOmuF3Z0DQ8Hu5lFL_ZNoiXIfecTAbgXsRrZz-9-0l01GjQXRev9Je_hILKz26Au2k/s320/base+cracked+hearts.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Step two: Apply Design. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE6NH9hAcgUQ03oa7-CFyum4Ca4AS9ao5f4W3NSgXGQ20krR2p344gJfaQLBDzgrQMNgGAOvUNPAaj8Q2xe9_VFDklX87V4RGVhRszQpi3koxWBORQe3gtXRtFnkvEKINSSXE5gwD8A-g/s1600/cracked+hearts+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE6NH9hAcgUQ03oa7-CFyum4Ca4AS9ao5f4W3NSgXGQ20krR2p344gJfaQLBDzgrQMNgGAOvUNPAaj8Q2xe9_VFDklX87V4RGVhRszQpi3koxWBORQe3gtXRtFnkvEKINSSXE5gwD8A-g/s320/cracked+hearts+finished.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
HaVE FUN!!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-19593296828526017612012-06-07T18:00:00.001-07:002012-06-07T18:00:10.478-07:00Color Combo CardsSince I picked up a ton of great new nail colors for spring along with some discounted crackle polishes, I wanted to figure out what the crackles would look like over the new colors. Last time I painted each finger a different color with a crackle over it, but wasn't so fond of the multi-colored nails! haha<br />
<br />
So this is what I came up with. <br />
<br />
A while ago I picked up a few storage boxes that had some large index cards that I had no idea what to do with. Finally found a use for them!<br />
<br />
1. Make 1 card for every base color you want to try<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil-YqlSiCB9ogs-SWWrk35D7MaQzLHYlw8m8kTFGf_dzqYLDdsmivSlURDQHlDIXdPTUe8ra27ZG2tg0rDjY-mjX_l0OFOhqPzEw0AfEkzMg2dP9SpN8raV9O1Xezm2PTGpK-5FYabAWI/s1600/1+note+cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil-YqlSiCB9ogs-SWWrk35D7MaQzLHYlw8m8kTFGf_dzqYLDdsmivSlURDQHlDIXdPTUe8ra27ZG2tg0rDjY-mjX_l0OFOhqPzEw0AfEkzMg2dP9SpN8raV9O1Xezm2PTGpK-5FYabAWI/s320/1+note+cards.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Paint slots of base coat for as many top coats as you want to pair the base with. In my case I wanted to try my 5 crackles. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx1eGaBnYVe1lvb-VX-EVA75dOazZxBRh4xvRBJI_4JeQSV6vaJ8wH78QC4u0I0CRPYcL8UmTnMkst6AN4w9wcD8RJcWfh8M4nlCx7Bg9RvG25yj7KftM1Zp-QGJbgeFSJrqvKiABrr00/s1600/2+note+cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx1eGaBnYVe1lvb-VX-EVA75dOazZxBRh4xvRBJI_4JeQSV6vaJ8wH78QC4u0I0CRPYcL8UmTnMkst6AN4w9wcD8RJcWfh8M4nlCx7Bg9RvG25yj7KftM1Zp-QGJbgeFSJrqvKiABrr00/s320/2+note+cards.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Next to the base coat I labeled the top coats I was gunna paint over the base. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Finished painting the top coats of crackle on my base coat samples. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have a few great simple DIY projects lined up and a few summer recipes I will be trying out. I found my camera and have lots of time to write my posts. <br />
<br />
I recently moved, last weekend actually, and have a ton of ideas for making the place feel like home. <br />
<br />
In the front yard under the main window is a great little shelf, so I am thinking FLOWERS!! There is also a small triangular shape and separate little pathway along the walk away so I would like to fill that in and plant some great things there. I have never really had a green thumb, but I'll be damned if that is gonna stop me. <br />
<br />
So please keep checking for little DIY projects and tutorials, along with pictures on the progress of turning house into home. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVjC9XXngsZdomKKLDXYCMzbfSufHSG27dVGwXrOJ4JziXUAOhyphenhyphenlRDW4KcFwQTQqq2IhB9D9N3OyUtT_xvLD4lwJB1d6xqSmL9DCUOoCApZEcREd1X6AbniCqaxGR1b623EiQSj4N1Zc/s1600/1332018720264.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVjC9XXngsZdomKKLDXYCMzbfSufHSG27dVGwXrOJ4JziXUAOhyphenhyphenlRDW4KcFwQTQqq2IhB9D9N3OyUtT_xvLD4lwJB1d6xqSmL9DCUOoCApZEcREd1X6AbniCqaxGR1b623EiQSj4N1Zc/s320/1332018720264.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a><br />
So I had a fabric headband that I really love the pattern of, but it wrapped around my entire head and would never stay on. So I took an extra headband I had around and cut the fabric to fit. Here is what I did.<br />
<br />
1. Took fabric I wanted on the headband and cut it to match the size of the headband. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5M_ZNB-Pt5mx8GOLxdwk2O7D-Vb4uJ-tJPYYTjoPx9QYM_dST5TmCD19TyFmET2Vv9d55Pjlbl89-vbVXws4x4hWzUSxu7gaAt9VNINJQbS-Rp9jQU9wsF1dhPGFU153-vMgcXj2_m3A/s1600/1332017944358.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5M_ZNB-Pt5mx8GOLxdwk2O7D-Vb4uJ-tJPYYTjoPx9QYM_dST5TmCD19TyFmET2Vv9d55Pjlbl89-vbVXws4x4hWzUSxu7gaAt9VNINJQbS-Rp9jQU9wsF1dhPGFU153-vMgcXj2_m3A/s320/1332017944358.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
2. Superglued the edges of the fabric over to make the seams not show when glued.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpedQvrGol34oO0eZBhX3BO82rA6ETC7-fDTqpjjVTHs-9ueUIk4oT0-xMTPfdBFw8X0GKPEu2lcxoZdmnc-PZkyRkfR3wnypEMAHhAYZPDvYPVzyLgi5nX56233fiRcqqJIBjnuxROiE/s1600/1332018261244.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpedQvrGol34oO0eZBhX3BO82rA6ETC7-fDTqpjjVTHs-9ueUIk4oT0-xMTPfdBFw8X0GKPEu2lcxoZdmnc-PZkyRkfR3wnypEMAHhAYZPDvYPVzyLgi5nX56233fiRcqqJIBjnuxROiE/s320/1332018261244.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
3. Folded over the edges so it wraps around the tips of the headband.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgaZq2kRnY3_GHTrl5yH9f2EZC34_Q8qm9LjTqQgPeRYHs7KP7vvTAt8cpnPZdTkBWYjintO8SX5eh-wt-w6Ft94CQJd5or2LJvkroYxLMa8gJtD-hq1Pmf-tdkK0_tmJbuvQZzzSSsI/s1600/1332018696266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzgaZq2kRnY3_GHTrl5yH9f2EZC34_Q8qm9LjTqQgPeRYHs7KP7vvTAt8cpnPZdTkBWYjintO8SX5eh-wt-w6Ft94CQJd5or2LJvkroYxLMa8gJtD-hq1Pmf-tdkK0_tmJbuvQZzzSSsI/s320/1332018696266.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
4. Let dry so the super glue won't stick to your hair! haha <br />
<br />
Have fun and use any fabric you want!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-56492401963414346112012-03-19T21:42:00.000-07:002012-03-19T21:42:40.200-07:00Spring ApproachesSo in the excitement of the approaching season, Spring, I decided I wanted to try something new and fresh with my hair. So here it is. <br />
<br />
Week 1: Only one of my nails actually chipped and started to peel. (keep in mind my nails take a beating with the physical labor that I do. So it isn't an ideal situation.) So I just repainted that nail and went about my business. <br />
<br />
Week 2: 2 of my nails, not the one I just painted last week, started to peel. So I repainted those. But just 3 days later more of my nails started to peel. <br />
<br />
Overall: The LED nail polish does what it says. It lasts about 2 weeks and instead of chipping it peels. Wish is nice when I only have to re-do one or two nails, its fast and easy. The nail color itself stays "wet" looking, which I personally like. <br />
<br />
I will continue to use this type of light and polish. The only draw back is that each color is about $10. <br />
<br />
Side note: I painted my nails about a week and a half ago, and they are doing great. No sign of peeling or dulling. So I am EXTREMELY happy with the results!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-91167685242055094422012-02-20T17:55:00.000-08:002012-02-20T17:55:25.100-08:003d Canvas paintingMy friend has been feeling really down lately, and I haven't had much motivation/time to do any fun DIY projects. <br />

<br />
After work last friday, my fiance and I wanted to get out of the house and have dinner together. So off to Hometown Buffet we went! haha. We love food and lots of different kinds are just right up our alley. Michaels craft store is right next door, so I thought I would just stop in and window shop for some fun crafts to do over the weekend. <br />
<br />
Thats where I found some wood cut-out figures and their canvas sale. So I picked up a few wood birds, some paint, martha stewart stencil set and a 2 pack canvas. <br />
<br />
I originally wanted to grab some letters spelling out her name, but they didn't have all the letters I needed. So I grabbed the stencil in place of the wood letters. <br />
<br />
There are tons of different shapes, letters and cut outs that you could do any design or story you wanted. I wanted to contrast two of my friends favorite colors. <br />
<br />
First I painted the canvas in a design that would allow me to alternate the wood cutout colors as well. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdngLnGy8sdzE1tC6uZj7OIA0-nQO5WYPSCM6K40lK4Ep7cvoV-FFZHSIksVA67kjo0C9qRj-P1pHB2-wWGt7-eNSaA2kSNpK1WI6ESOedCN7hQbrrJxlzgEzll_i3gS7-o8tB2BsNmoI/s1600/canvas+painted.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdngLnGy8sdzE1tC6uZj7OIA0-nQO5WYPSCM6K40lK4Ep7cvoV-FFZHSIksVA67kjo0C9qRj-P1pHB2-wWGt7-eNSaA2kSNpK1WI6ESOedCN7hQbrrJxlzgEzll_i3gS7-o8tB2BsNmoI/s320/canvas+painted.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Then I painted the wood cut outs in the same two colors. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheSmBsBxG2Xj_fR1Que9ZoEo7YBiiLRUdttkAvDvfFzky_PF1TcLABI64XAFIdxKrLyhu8fUo558sM86GtcmS0EWlcqrSqhDVuCb4MJbRvhbnH1upkS-J0ssuv36QW4utW5FonYbPcq6Q/s1600/painted+wood+bird.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheSmBsBxG2Xj_fR1Que9ZoEo7YBiiLRUdttkAvDvfFzky_PF1TcLABI64XAFIdxKrLyhu8fUo558sM86GtcmS0EWlcqrSqhDVuCb4MJbRvhbnH1upkS-J0ssuv36QW4utW5FonYbPcq6Q/s320/painted+wood+bird.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Once the Canvas was completely dry I placed the stencil I wanted to use and used a sponge paint brush to apply the color. And last I used super glue to place the birds where I wanted them.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-8983045661603179062012-02-20T17:34:00.000-08:002012-02-20T17:34:56.335-08:00LED nail setLately I have been into painting and designing my nails. But working at the animal shelter reaked havoc on my polish. Sometimes the polish wouldn't even last a whole day. So when I saw the LED activiated nail polish I was really interested in how it worked, how long it REALLY lasted, and how easy/affordable it was. <br />
<br />
I did some research online about the difference between LED and UV light polish. From what I got it wasn't much except the cost of bulbs. Each requires a base and top coat and special lighting. <br />
<br />
For me, my local Walmart made the desiscion for me about which I would try. They had a kit specifically for the LED polish. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJ-iQkJ111uU3BTFEtlMuMaIiXc9DDTLcOxMovyffaQr_147U7miZkgbSRKwTcnc-rxvmjYmzNB44XYPuYyNk71YuDJ28szjoUApMVqTuLS-iZLk6ahNl3Jnh3_ZX5u-3YtXckkGGY9w/s1600/led+nail+kit+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJ-iQkJ111uU3BTFEtlMuMaIiXc9DDTLcOxMovyffaQr_147U7miZkgbSRKwTcnc-rxvmjYmzNB44XYPuYyNk71YuDJ28szjoUApMVqTuLS-iZLk6ahNl3Jnh3_ZX5u-3YtXckkGGY9w/s320/led+nail+kit+front.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As you can see the package claims 2 weeks of great color, so of course this interested me. The kit itself was a little pricey $50, but it came with everything I needed to get started. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">kit includes:</div><ul><li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Buffer and nail file</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Lint free wipes</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Gel cleanser</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Gel Primer</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Gel base and top coat</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Color gel polish</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Lamp</div></li>
</ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjVidW6RkPMEtczQSsOiMoDlVgSUgcMR9ysgF20oPhT99hU0PrngtlGhN4OrUT6iAqUk5MM4pUS_6tI3DGf1t9LzhoGBDOiDv21hJ2F6DwLxgF3c8HSaV_z4ziIbcALPy4MEGmBXe3000/s1600/led+nail+kit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjVidW6RkPMEtczQSsOiMoDlVgSUgcMR9ysgF20oPhT99hU0PrngtlGhN4OrUT6iAqUk5MM4pUS_6tI3DGf1t9LzhoGBDOiDv21hJ2F6DwLxgF3c8HSaV_z4ziIbcALPy4MEGmBXe3000/s320/led+nail+kit.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">They also have refill kits that run about $20. So in the short run it costs more than regular nail polish, but in the long run it should cost you less. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I first tried this polish, but then also tried applying lace to the top with nail glue. However, it didn't work out so well so I peeled the lace and nail color off. I re-applied it just yesterday and so far it has held up great. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCFCw51ZUXe-2cWiZdsd6x1EKWOsxtCYlQMLUaJp1SWpSTzVbsKnKay3mf2k5-yWi7Z2k1LQf9Pshq_sytcXEKm4DO418ZYR5FItvbjELNDzmv6tNLkEM5qQWGVe7tquGVF-LHLG9W5O8/s1600/led+nails+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCFCw51ZUXe-2cWiZdsd6x1EKWOsxtCYlQMLUaJp1SWpSTzVbsKnKay3mf2k5-yWi7Z2k1LQf9Pshq_sytcXEKm4DO418ZYR5FItvbjELNDzmv6tNLkEM5qQWGVe7tquGVF-LHLG9W5O8/s320/led+nails+finished.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

We picked up a few mugs from our local craft store along with some acrylic paint. (this will make it so the mugs cannot be used for drinks, but great for decorations.) <br />
<br />
Here is a look at my mug.<br />

The wedding it outside and its minimal. No flowers other than the wildflowers that grow there. <br />
<br />
Our wedding is more about fun and being together than formalities. No tuxes, just black wranglers and camo cumberbuns. (I believe thats what those are called, the vests) <br />
<br />
I saw the cutest picture on pinterest for an amazing save the date. <br />
<img alt="Pinned Image" id="pinCloseupImage" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/138978338470488177_19nIzZZc_c.jpg" /><br />

<br />
But since I didnt have anyone around to photograph us, I improvised and created this. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif-m_-2BQM9VNd0eEFoY0XDbttUu5TUj_B8eBKfoPGhHnnq3zNjEr1Vwt1q1ctWAWn6JcBilZJUekq-IyO49ft3veo7QP4gYgYJJdtWnSmBvfd74YR8MNZJBGcUaSxvz7fdy_YUGCHatM/s1600/save+the+date3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif-m_-2BQM9VNd0eEFoY0XDbttUu5TUj_B8eBKfoPGhHnnq3zNjEr1Vwt1q1ctWAWn6JcBilZJUekq-IyO49ft3veo7QP4gYgYJJdtWnSmBvfd74YR8MNZJBGcUaSxvz7fdy_YUGCHatM/s320/save+the+date3.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I tried taking the picture with my phone, but the pixels werent large enough so when i would put it on the postcard it was blurry. So I went back to the drawing board and used my regular camera. But I still wanted the toy camera effect, so I looked around on line for a program that would alter the photo for me. The program is Toy Camera Analog. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After I got the picture all squared away I used vistaprint.com to order my save the date postcards. They should be coming in a few weeks. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">(I got the idea for postcards from a website my fiance, davy, found for me giving away coupons for companies and DIY tips for weddings. thefrugalgirls.com. Its an awesome website, not just for weddings but for everyday items and ideas as well. I recommend it!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My next step is to make my own invitations. This is gunna be a piece of cake....</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-21285105771405969342012-01-14T06:57:00.000-08:002012-01-14T06:57:46.245-08:00Wedding bells are a chimin'A joke about throwing a wedding together in 3 months, turned into a for sure wedding date. Crazy isn't it? <br />
<br />
For those of you who haven't heard the story already, Davy and I have been planning to get married for the last year and a half. Our last date was Nov. 6, 2010. And the time before that was April 24, 2010. Yet, each of those dates just steamed on by with no wedding. <br />
<br />
Then about 1 week ago, while at my inlaws, they joked about us getting married this year and in the spring. Well, as you can see, plans are now in the making. <br />
<br />
Hall reserved for reception. <br />
Wedding location pick-out.<br />
Minister already booked. <br />
<br />
But, there is stull so much to do. I started another blog, so others can visit the site and find out details on the wedding and check out details. <br />
<br />
I'm very excited!! It will also give me a TON of new material for this blog. Mostly DIY for wedding things, but DIY projects none the less. <br />

Neither do there beds and blankets. I have tried EVERYTHING to try and get the smell out a few of their beds, but most of the time I end up just throwing them out. Well by accident I discovered that adding a small amount of simple green to any load of laundry will make them smell SO good. <br />
<br />
I also have plans for a dog bed that will make it easy to wash as well as keep the stuffing from smelling. (coming soon)<br />
<br />
Try a cap full of simple green in your next load and be amazed at how great your clothes smell.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-7392187402377878972012-01-02T14:50:00.000-08:002012-01-02T15:17:06.302-08:00New Years Resolutions UncoveredWhether its losing weight or just trying to be happier everyone always has more than one thing. Some people make it the whole year and others try "hard." Either way we all start off in the same place. An idea. <br />
<br />
I have noticed that if it is more than one person attempting to complete something it works out better. Maybe its the support from other people, or even a competative side coming out, the end result is always satisfactory. <br />
<br />
So I'm thinking this year I want to create a list and post it up for everyone to see and record my progress. (Located in my pages section) Maybe this will help me stick to everything I want to accomplish. And if anyone wants to post theirs or join me in any of mine your more than welcome too. <br />
<br />
Good luck with all your New Year Resolutions!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-90122567982890576432012-01-01T21:33:00.000-08:002012-01-01T21:33:03.966-08:00Fabric Bracelets Gone Wild<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I wanted to do a post, showing you how to create the bracelets I have been making.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> <span id="goog_535514218"></span><span id="goog_535514219"></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"></span>The first step is to choose the fabrics that you want to use. <span style="font-family: Calibri;">You can use anything you want to fasten the bracelet. I use ribbon because I thought it looked cute. So while we were at the fabric store, she picked up jewels and stickers to put on a phone case. I found a few things that were really cool, so i grabbed some stickers and placed them on the case i currently have. Here was the result. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBN4GiHf8gvvlyMGp0wV-286qqg84NDXW2mQoltS3PQyP3YCeqEHylvPpkmzZu9BHRqBs9jnfRwHbea10B_6zZn00SLNYNyp-qzlMHl0jEP8UTUQbddz633ulWkV7EGQsglLcOHAM5X2w/s1600/phone+bling.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBN4GiHf8gvvlyMGp0wV-286qqg84NDXW2mQoltS3PQyP3YCeqEHylvPpkmzZu9BHRqBs9jnfRwHbea10B_6zZn00SLNYNyp-qzlMHl0jEP8UTUQbddz633ulWkV7EGQsglLcOHAM5X2w/s320/phone+bling.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

All of them for the low total of $22. A few were on the clearance racks, that were also marked at 50% off the red tag. Others were on sale for 30% off the per yard price. I just got 1/4 of a yard of those, but got about 1 yard of the clearance fabrics.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEius9pB6DzHZzJrSAqSBI4YYcNMM1H4WIuZOMgrJCkQLAkeb6ip_6hpyPjqiSY_MxFfyJja2tIl6QQ5kRNcDhxjqPKkJ6Y3lMxJIPitEzBF5zEjIhN2cYaN8VmwLRo4-oxJcSAPWa2-b80/s1600/pile+of+fabrics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEius9pB6DzHZzJrSAqSBI4YYcNMM1H4WIuZOMgrJCkQLAkeb6ip_6hpyPjqiSY_MxFfyJja2tIl6QQ5kRNcDhxjqPKkJ6Y3lMxJIPitEzBF5zEjIhN2cYaN8VmwLRo4-oxJcSAPWa2-b80/s400/pile+of+fabrics.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I love the color and patterns of the florals, but the deep teals and blues. But most of all I love the prices of these amazing fabrics. I can't but describe it as a STEAL! haha. <br />
<br />
They should last me a few days, if not weeks, of projects. hopefully!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-76593475405029671312011-12-31T16:11:00.000-08:002011-12-31T16:11:39.921-08:00Sewing it upSo ever since I finished my book, I have been itching to get my fingers on the power switch. <br />

I went for a project that would both feel like an accomplishment but was still an easy enough goal for a beginner.<br />
<br />
<br />
First project was just sewing together a dog blanket. It actually turned out really well. Don't have pictures unfortunaly. <br />
<br />
In the back of my book is a template for a fabric bracelet. With a few modifications I banged out 4 bracelets. Each one had a different way of approach, which I am very happy with. I know I need more practice, but they are practical and very satisfying to finish. Here are my bracelets. <br />

I will be doing a DIY project on how to make these, so stay tuned!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-84108116626989485542011-12-31T15:37:00.000-08:002011-12-31T15:37:20.730-08:00New Directions and Clear OutlinesIf you are a regular viewer of my blog you will notice a few things are changing. I'm starting to figure out the direction I want to go with this blog and how I feel I will get the most out of it. <br />
<br />
So for a few months now my future mother-in-law and I have been planning to start our own line of products, Dertie Panties; personalized dog beds, dog clothes, jewlery and baby onsies. <br />
<br />
Most of our items will be made from other items we had laying around. <br />
<br />
More about the project to come once we work out how things are going to be done. <br />
<br />
Stay tuned for more info and please check back often to support us on this amazing adventure.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01553378508250248535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6588144694775749834.post-68499638491301594012011-12-31T14:13:00.000-08:002011-12-31T14:26:24.942-08:00Gettin' Down with the Machine...before powering up.<br />
<br />
I couldn't have been more excited than on Christmas, than when I opened my sewing machine. All the ideas rushing out of my brain making my fingers itch. But first I had to figure out <em>HOW</em> to start. So I went to the fabric store and looked at some books. I finally decided on a great book that was REALLY helpful and had great tips and projects. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqwD5J_EFKIwyAwJXg7_NOnVfTkOHO0R8VsLnjojZ1cBgyls2fr0_xRA3EEear6xnFwWevDGbk2HM6n-_DoOVi23KRBLrITodr4_mY1tqSmYyg_bi-XBaSZMIvYP4mTMOOEk69G-fhh40/s1600/book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqwD5J_EFKIwyAwJXg7_NOnVfTkOHO0R8VsLnjojZ1cBgyls2fr0_xRA3EEear6xnFwWevDGbk2HM6n-_DoOVi23KRBLrITodr4_mY1tqSmYyg_bi-XBaSZMIvYP4mTMOOEk69G-fhh40/s320/book.jpg" width="179" /></a></div><a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What I love about the book is the step-by-step instructions along with pictures that really help a visual learner like myself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>Here is the table of contents. As you can see there are a ton of things to read from, and that it really goes over the essentials of sewing.<br />
